When I was working in a cafe a few years ago I used to have an older lady come in called Lorie. Every day she was wearing an outrageous combination of bright colours. Hot pink and bright yellow, blue, green, red, purple. Any combination you can think of, I saw her in it.
I asked her one day why she liked to wear so much colour. Black, she said, was sad, and stepping into a wardrobe full of vibrant colours brought her joy. Walking out of the house like this, felt to her, like she was sharing this joy with everyone who crossed paths with her.
I often think about this outlook on colour and apply it to my life. Through my work, through the clothes I choose to wear and the food I eat. The flowers that dress my table in the Summer and those that bloom in the Winter, all carrying different emotions through their colour.
