During a season of some struggle last year, I woke most days half conscious through the portal of sleep paralysis. I was in a season of not creating, and this was my first sketch in an empty sketch book that was supposed to be filled with “ideas” but instead filled me with dread. But this drawing felt like a type of resolution, to visually communicate something that felt symbolic of an emotional time, but this outcome felt healing, beautiful, transmuting the drama of both light and the dark into one of my most favourite works to date.
Art is one of the most powerful healing tools we have.
